They won't use the same key, but if you set them up with the same password then VeraCrypt can mount them at boot time when you enter your password in for booting. Then, in the future, if you get a larger and/or second drive and decide to have extra data partitions, then you can encrypt them too. If you want encryption I suggest you use VeraCrypt ystem encryption to encrypt your main boot (C:) partition. If you ask me, VeraCrypt is better than hardware encryption. HW, as in hardware? VeraCrypt isn't hardware encryption except that it support hardware acceleration of AES. Th UEFI and recovery partitions won't be encrypted, but that's not relevant because a) they operate better unencrypted anyway since adding encryption support to their recovery environments is complicated and gets you nothing because b) who stores sensitive data on recovery partitions anyway - you can't even mount them without resorting to extreme measures.Īny pointers to what I can try to get my system HW encrypted?

You only have the main boot (C:) partition, UEFI, recovery (system backup) and WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment) partitions. That being said, looking at your parititons I see that you don't have any. You can still encrypt your system drive, and can encrypt as many other non-UEFI non-recovery partitions as you like. With UEFI you can't encrypt the "entire" drive, no, but that only means you can't have multiple partitions sharing a single key.

This way both partitions were encrypted with a single key. The whole idea of encrypting the "entire" drive the old way was only even relevant if you had multiple usable partitions with their own drive letters. not sure what you mean by usable.īy "usable" I meant "partitions that you would use on a day to day basis and for which there is a drive letter assigned".īecause you can't encrypt the entire drive wieh UEFI any more, this has some people thinking that this is somehow a loss of functionality.
